Jim Sheard was born in Cyprus in 1962 and spent his childhood abroad, mainly in Singapore and Germany.

He has been writing poetry for over 20 years.

He completed the
M.A. Writing at Sheffield Hallam University in 2003. His pamphlet from that year – Hotel Mastbosch – won the Ictus Prize, and went on to be the Poetry Book Society’s Pamphlet Choice for Winter 2003.

A collection –
Scattering Eva – was published in 2005 with Jonathan Cape, and was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection 2005 and the Glenn Dimplex New Writers’ Award 2006 in the poetry category.

His new collection -
Dammtor - was published in 2010, and was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation.

His work also appears in
Identity Parade, the Ten Hallam Poets Anthology from Mews Press, The Forward Book of Poetry 2006 and various print publications, including The Guardian, The Independent on Sunday and The London Review of Books.

Jim is Lecturer in Creative Writing at
Keele University, and does some research into poetry in translation.
